Viktoryia Zakharava

Mixed Media Artist, Bologna, Italy
My story began in Vitebsk, Belarus, the city where I was born. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve drawn at every opportunity. Even then, I knew I wanted to pursue something creative.

I attended art college as an extracurricular activity, and it was the happiest time I remember from my childhood.
I was an unusual, creative child, as I can now see from this perspective. I can picture that young girl sitting in her room, making drawings in a scrapbook to express and explore all she felt and absorbed from the world around her—and I adore her. She was inventive, joyful, a dreamer, and eternally optimistic.

However, I never considered art as a career path when it came to choosing a university major or career. My first choice was related to finance and technology.
My Background
After earning my master's degree in Actuarial Mathematics from Belarusian State University in Minsk and settling down, I returned to the one thing I truly loved: art. In 2010, I took the leap and decided to move from Belarus to Italy to apply to the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. During these years, I also started my own business, offering branding and product design services to support my studies and living.

After graduating with a degree in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and Bologna in 2014, I began a full-time job in product design.
Since I realized that I was an artist with immense creative potential and ideas that I wasn't utilizing, the realization hit me hard—I felt like I had wasted almost ten years of my life and needed to quickly achieve artist status. I began drawing every day, experimenting with materials, exploring various topics, and trying to refine my work.

Since then, I've learned to trust the process. I've slowed down and taken breaks. What keeps me coming back is the human desire to be seen, to reveal my innermost self, and to share it with others.

My biggest aspiration is to be a full-time artist and dedicate my full time in my Art studio.
I am continuously experimenting with a variety of subject matters, media, and stylistic techniques. As a multifaceted artist, my work spans from creative direction to physical installations, all with the ultimate goal of achieving a polished and effective visual result.
